Abraham Lincoln had Walt Whitman, John Kennedy had Robert Frost, Jimmy Carter created his own muse, Bill Clinton had Maya Angelou, and George W. Bush - well, he’s just Bush. Wit and wisdom at its pinnacle.

The subject is poetry and presidents. More Intelligent Life informs us that George Washington scribbled verse - probably on hemp - and Honest Abe had a death fetish. Go figure.

Well, as you can imagine, a man who’d deliver an address as poetic as the Gettyburg Address could probably write some good verse. Even the Library of Congress serves as a historic witness to that fact. Among the presidents rumored to have written poetry are:

While all of this can be amusing, it all begs me to ask, “Why is it that most of the poetic-minded presidents are pre-Civil War?”
