Intelligent Commentary On 21st Century Poetics
Poets Laureate, Chapbooks, And The Poetry Hall Of Fame
4 December 2007, the poet @ 8:31 pm

Julia Cohen has a new chapbook.

There are only 40 state poet laureates in the U.S? I’d like to get that list. Well, there is soon to be one more.

I’m encouraged, actually, by the number of local poet laureates. Where I live, several small towns have poet laureates. I believe this is simply evidence that poetry is popular and growing even more so. I think every community needs a poet laureate. Tell us who the poet laureate is in your community.

Though Maya Angelou has never served as poet laureate, she has now been entered into the World Class Poetry Hall of Fame.
