Robert Lee Brewer asks, “Should poets be treated like rock stars?” Funny he should ask that. I was actually mulling over in my mind a possible poem written in the personified voice of a washed out rock star.
I know a poet who’s publisher refers to his reading schedule as a world tour. It seems that we are, of sorts, like rock stars. Hasn’t Billy Collins proved that? He’s got the closest thing to a cult following of any poet I know.
I guess that makes me a burnt-out rock star.
The bright side is that poets actually do die of natural causes - if they don’t die in boating accidents.
